Mavoi Satum was founded in 1995 with the aim of offering assistance to agunot and mesoravot get in Israel. The organization has two main branches of activity: on the individual level we assist masoravot get and agunot in their struggle for a Jewish divorce; on the public level we are working towards a full solution to the problem of get-refusal.

The assistance we provide for mesoravot get includes both legal and emotional support throughout the struggle for the get. Mavoi Satum has considerable expertise in the field, and tens of women each year receive a get with our help. The legal services we provide include initial advice for women beginning the divorce process, who are concerned that their husbands may refuse to give them a get, as well as continued legal representation for mesoravot get in the rabbinical and the family courts. The emotional support provided by Mavoi Satum helps women to deal with the many pressures brought about by get-refusal. We offer women continuous contact with the organization's social worker, and the option of a 'companion' to support them throughout the process. We also invite women to various workshops, which are aimed at developing the skills women need in order to deal with the challenges of their situations.
Mavoi Satum's belief is that a full solution to the problem of get-refusal can be reached. With this aim in view we work to keep the subject prominent on the social agenda, increasing public awareness and organizing widespread educational activities, conferences, seminars and student and youth activities, as well as ensuring continuous media coverage of the issue. We are in contact with public opinion-makers and work to create effective political lobby aimed towards solving the problem of get-refusal. It is the Knesset and the Government that provide the rabbinical courts with their authority, and for this reason Mavoi Satum views them as the bodies responsible for correcting the current situation. We are therefore in close contact with Knesset members and the initiators of legal bills with the aim of advancing a number of legislative solutions. We are active in raising awareness of the problem among all the parties who are influential in the political process. It is our belief that activities such as these will eventually bring an end to the injustice suffered by so many women in Israel.
